Valmet Signs DCS Development and Digitization Agreement with Mercer International

There are plans to replace Distributed Control Systems (DCS) at pulp mills in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, with Valmet DNA, a single automation system for processes, machines, training and quality control.
January 25, 2022 – Mercer International and Valmet have signed a long-term agreement to accelerate Mercer’s global digital transformation program. Implementation of the agreement begins with the replacement of the distributed control systems (DCS) at the Mercer Peace River pulp mill in Alberta and the Mercer Celgar pulp mill in British Columbia, Canada, with the Valmet DNA automation system.
Valmet DNA is a unique automation system for processes, machines, drives and quality controls. Its intuitive user interface makes the most meaningful information available to users based on their roles, regardless of location, enabling real-time, data-driven collaboration and performance optimization anywhere, anytime. moment.

Mercer will benefit from enhanced, connected DCS data communication and real-time performance analysis across all of its operations. This will improve diagnostics and troubleshooting while reducing redundancies and downtime. A solid foundation for advanced data usage with integrated industrial internet connectivity, global collaboration, operational consistency and continuity will be achieved.
