The three-row Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV finally arrives this month
We’ve seen a concept of it, we’ve even taken a ride in one, but the final production Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV will finally be revealed later this month. We’ll forgive you for getting confused about the name, considering Mercedes has a sedan that also goes by the EQS name. But the SUV is more than just a raised sedan; our experience with some prototypes has proven it’s more than capable off-road, too.
The EQS SUV is the third model to build on Mercedes’ expanding range based on its new EVA2 modular architecture, stretching it to accommodate up to seven people inside. A 107.8kWh battery will power two motors, one on each axle, although we also expect a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model to go on sale later.
Air suspension with electronic adaptive dampers will be standard, and the SUV will use the brand’s 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system with various specific off-road scenarios to enhance the driving experience (on the twin-motor version). The twin-engine version to be launched first is expected to achieve a range of 340 miles.
Inside, Mercedes’ familiar 56-inch “Hyperscreen” touchscreen interface is available as an option, otherwise you’ll get a 17-inch screen to control navigation, infotainment and the Dolby Atmos sound system. Another 12.3-inch screen sits in front of the driver. The SUV will also receive a slightly updated version of the MBUX user interface, with improved “Hey, Mercedes” prompts and feedback from the digital assistant programmed into the system.
Other than that, we know the SUV won’t have a front trunk area for storage like the rest of the EQ range, instead saving that space for the HVAC and other vehicle components, which would otherwise eat away at the car. cabin space. Visually, expect the EQS SUV to look nearly identical to its sedan sibling.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV will make its online debut on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:00 a.m. ET, joining the EQS sedan it shares a wheelbase with and the smaller midsize EQE all-electric sedan.
