The local artist designs a new cover for “Liberty!” | New
ELIZABETHTON – Theater companies often have to pay a lot of money for compelling covers for new productions. But Tennessee’s official outdoor drama didn’t have to pay anything for a new cover art.
The drama is “Freedom! The saga of the sycamore beds. It is played annually at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park by the Friends of Sycamore Shoals. Mike Hill is a former board member of the Friends of Sycamore Shoals.
“My term on the board expired and I left last year,” Hill said. As a farewell gift to council members, Hill presented the new cover art.
“I rearranged their graphic identity to more properly align the visual images to convey that this is a theatrical production,” Hill said. He said he thought it “captures the essence of our story”.
Hill is a graphic designer and illustrator who has operated suppliers of art and design materials in Banner Elk, North Carolina for 30 years.
Hill said he is launching a marketing campaign with the new look. It targets the North Carolina High Country visitor market marketing campaign. He said his goal was to attract patrons of the outdoor drama “The Horn in the West” to Boone, North Carolina.
He said his graphic is built in editable layers “so that it can be easily reconfigured for use as program covers, flyers, commercials and a full-size movie marquee poster to display at the historic park visitor center. from Sycamore Shoals, positioning in people’s minds that they need to come back and catch the drama during its June run this year.
“I think everything went well,” Hill said.
“Freedom!” starts this year’s performances on June 4 and will continue with performances on the following days in June: 5, 11, 12, 17-19 and 24-26. Tickets can be purchased online at: www.theLibertyDrama.com.
