Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, bolsters Australia’s advanced manufacturing capacity by providing free research and development (R&D) support to companies to help them develop new products or services.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) working on new advanced manufacturing solutions can enroll in the free 10-week Innovate to Grow online program, to support their business idea by building their R&D knowledge, with 25 places available. Upon completion of the program, participants may be able to access facilitation support, through CSIRO, to connect to research expertise nationwide, as well as funding from Counterpart R&D.
CSIRO’s manufacturing director said disruptions to the global supply chain have highlighted the need to bolster Australia’s advanced manufacturing capabilities. Advanced manufacturing plays a crucial role in a variety of sectors, with manufacturing contributing around 6% of Australia’s GDP, from biomedical manufacturing to smart robotics and automation.
Improving Australia’s advanced manufacturing capacity is a key part of Australia’s recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, and much of that capacity will be driven by SMEs, which account for 99, 8% of all businesses in Australia, he said.

While collaboration is essential for successful R&D results, CIRO 2021 research found that less than 15% of Australian companies engage universities or research institutes when considering exploring new business opportunities. innovation.
