Road racing takes center stage just before Season 3 arrives
IRacing Season 3 is finally here, and while there wasn’t much to report other than the Nashville Superspeedway announcement on the Oval Track side, there was a lot going on in the road course.
The Red Bull Ring is a fun addition for road bellmen on top of all the other content we already knew like Formula Vee and the Porsche 911 GT3 R. Other changes have been implemented in the user interface (UI ), and the dirt tires on many NASCAR vehicles have also been updated.
All three series covered did road races last week. Both Cup Series went west to Sonoma Raceway while Monday Night Racing traveled northeast for a Mazda MX-5 timed race around Lime Rock Park.

RACE 16: SONOMA RACEWAY, June 5
Robert Miller came to play Saturday night at Beers Point 350 at Sonoma Raceway.
Miller won pole, won stages and, in addition to 13 laps led by Bryson Hixenbaugh, led the most laps in the 90-lap show. There were only the two cautions for the stages and only four of the 25 starters finished in the lead lap.
Adam Benefiel started last after a session crash, but worked his way through to finish third behind Miller and Hixenbaugh. Miller claimed his first career pole and victory after the event ended, and Hixenbaugh extended his lead over Jon Dulaney after Dulaney did not participate.

FTF CUP SERIES | SUNDAYS AT 8 p.m. ET
RACE 15: SONOMA RACEWAY, June 6
Two points earning back-to-back road races for the FTF Cup Series saw a second really good and mostly clean for the most part, this time at Sonoma Raceway. One early warning set the stage for an endurance race, and at first it looked like Blake Reynolds was going to be the man to beat.
Reynolds took pole and won both stages, but barely over Kevin King. During the midway pit stops, King cut Reynolds earlier for cooler tires, which allowed the 029 to take the lead. However, Reynolds had a faster car and eventually regained King’s bumper. Unfortunately, the two made contact and took off, ceding the lead to Brandon Hawkin.
As the race turned green until the end, Hawkin beat Matt Danson by over 20 seconds. Michael Guest was third while King was fourth and Reynolds was fifth

RACE 5: LIME ROCK PARK, June 7
An hour-long Mazda MX-5 scrimmage saw 40 drivers take the turns at Lime Rock Park on Monday night. In the end, Stefan Wilson took the win over the rest of the peloton.
Season 2 champion Will Rodgers led the field to the Green Flag, but his night was cut short before the halfway point when he collided with a overtaken car and other top contenders . Wilson barely approached, and since there was only one warning planned halfway through, those involved in the crash would have to charge very hard to return to the front lines.
Brad Perez was one of those drivers involved, making the most progress to come back to the front, eventually finishing sixth. With Wilson verified, the battle fell in the race for the second, which was won by Josh Bilicki over Preston Pardus.

The Frontstretch team didn’t have the biggest exit. Michael Massie finished 35th after a difficult start that saw him fall several laps. Justin Melillo finished 26th after a late-race shipwreck knocked him out of the Top 15.
With his win, Wilson becomes the fourth different winner in five races, but don’t lock him up just yet. Wilson has to run at least five of nine regular season races to use the win to enter. Only Matt Stallknecht and Adam Cabot can say they did because they raced in all races. Wilson and Shane van Gisbergen both need a few more spots to solidify in the round of 16
