PS4 and Xbox Early Access Explained
The RimWorld Console Edition the release date is almost here, and for those who pre-ordered, chances are you’ll enjoy the game early.
As confirmed by Double Eleven, the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game is coming this week for everyone, regardless of which version you plan to buy.
But with two different release dates to cover, it’s worth checking out everything that’s happening this week with the popular Survival Sim.
RimWorld Console Edition release date explained
The RimWorld Console Edition release date is July 29, 2022 at 12:00 a.m. local time on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
This is when everyone will have access to the game regardless of which version they purchased in July 2022. However, there is a way to start playing RimWorld earlier, including purchasing a pre-order of the game.
As confirmed by Double Eleven, owners of Digital Deluxe will be able to play the game three days earlier on July 26, with a release time of 00:00 local time. The Digital Deluxe also comes with the Royalty DLC bundle, which will be available during the Early Access period.
The RimWorld Console Edition Digital Deluxe package is $54.99 on the PlayStation Store and the same price on the Xbox Store. It’s also worth noting that RimWorld Console Edition is currently not listed as coming to Xbox Game Pass as a Day One version and will not be available as part of a subscription.
Double Eleven also said they don’t know if there will be a native PS5 or Xbox Series X version of the game, although the title runs better on those two platforms compared to last-gen hardware.
As for the future, Double Eleven said more DLC packages may be coming in the future, although there are no guarantees at this stage, and although there is no support mod, the development team will be looking to expand the console edition experience in the future.
A message from the team adds: “RimWorld (PC) is an ever-evolving game, and we have decided to move away from this version of RimWorld, locking down content while we tweak, improve and develop our own version. This means that although we were slightly out of sync with RimWorld (PC), we were able to focus on bug fixing, performance optimizations and fine-tuning our experience for console players. It’s still the same RimWorld experience, optimized exclusively for consoles with a fully tailored user interface that makes the most of what a controller has to offer.
“When RimWorld Console Edition releases on July 29, we will continue to improve our version of the game, ensuring that console players have as smooth an experience as possible. We are following our own roadmap, and although we want bring content and features from RimWorld (PC), we need to make sure they work with our new UI, new control scheme and are optimized for console hardware.
