Nintendo Fan Introduces Amazing Switch UI Concept
The Nintendo Switch’s user interface hasn’t seen many changes since its launch. In a series of concept images, a fan showed what an overhaul could look like.
Bestseller follower Nintendo Switch console recently created a mockup of what a UI overhaul could look like. This is just a hypothetical reinvention of the console’s user interface, which has remained largely unchanged even as Nintendo gears up for the release of the Nintendo Switch OLED alongside Terror Metroid.
Nintendo’s hybrid console has been a huge hit with both hardcore and casual gaming fans since its initial release in 2017. The device has hosted a number of modern classics, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. While the games available for the Switch are plentiful, some fans have been a bit disappointed with the state of the system’s UI. While consoles like Microsoft’s Xbox regularly receive updates to their user interfaces to improve functionality with features like custom groups, the Switch homepage user interface and the eShop app have received very few updates. Nintendo is releasing updates to address Switch issues, but a major overhaul of how the UI works has yet to be seen.
With no officially announced plans to change the UI on the horizon, a Reddit user going by the pseudo porcorousseauu decided to come up with his own design. This fan creation retains much of the current UI design philosophy, but adds quality of life features like custom groups and folders, as well as a bit of extra visual flair, including this which appears to be a color scheme that changes depending on what Joy-Cons are used for. The Nintendo eShop and the social hub have also been redesigned.
The appeal of a UI is subjective in many ways, but there are certainly several Switch owners who find this recreation more aesthetically pleasing than Nintendo’s official UI. The idea of the variable color scheme is particularly interesting and goes well with Nintendo’s focus on releasing the new Joy-Cons for games like Fortnite. The Switch is arguably a lot more customizable than other consoles thanks to the myriad of unique Joy-Cons, so the current lack of features like UI themes can certainly be considered odd. Folders are also a great idea, as the Switch currently doesn’t offer any organization options for game libraries.
Switch fans might fall in love with this fan revamp, but Nintendo is unlikely to revise the UI for the flagship console anytime soon. The company seems to focus primarily on games of this generation, as evidenced by the choice to keep popular streaming apps like Netflix out of the system. A more customizable and attractive Nintendo Switch The UI would be nice, but the current minimal and streamlined interface still does the job just fine.
