NHL 22’s puck movement could be its best improvement
Increased realism for offensive and defensive passing, interceptions and deflections help make NHL 22 puck movement more immersive.
On the surface, NHL 22 looks rather similar to NHL 21, but the gameplay improvements under the hood will likely make it look a whole lot different. The new Superstar X-Factor system is a nice touch, but NHL 22 the best changes may be his movement and modified puck controls.
Although this is another year NHL game, it will be significantly different from NHL 21, too much. NHL 22 the switch to EA’s Frostbite motor brings dynamic lighting to the ice and realistic 3D ice spray effects as skaters pivot. Player likenesses should be improved from previous years, and his “augmented reality“the user interface will probably bring new life to the NHL presentation of the games.
According to EA, NHL 22 includes several new passing and puck possession systems that will make the game more realistic. In addition to others to come NHL 22 Gameplay improvements, players can no longer throw the puck with maximum power and precision in any direction with each player on the ice. Passes made to a receiver who is out of the passer’s line of sight will have much less assist with the pass, and the same will apply to charged passes in power.
These obstacles can, however, be tackled with NHL 22the capabilities of Superstar X-Factor. Players like the Maple Leafs’ Mitch Marner have the Third Eye ability, which helps them hit seemingly impossible passes to teammates out of their line of sight. Roman Josi of the Nashville Predators has the Send It ability, which helps him shoot more precise stretch passes. Another cool touch to the pass is that the maximum passing power will be decreased when passing from the player’s backhand or against their momentum.
How puck movement is better in NHL 22
Unlike the new passing mechanics, there are new, more realistic ways of defending passes. In the past NHL games, unless adjusted in the settings, the only results for a pass on target were a smooth ending or an interception that hooked perfectly to the defender’s stick. In NHL 22, there will be more deflected passes that will not result in immediate possession for either team. Unique animations have been added to allow defenders to block passes with their skates, and high level defenders can reach out and stop passes with limbs. Seth Jones of the Blackhawks, for example, has the Quick Pick X-Factor ability, which gives him an increased intercept rate and range of the puck.
The new deviation animations in NHL 22 are not unique to its defensive players; offensive players with good hand-eye coordination can use the new deflection system to keep goaltenders on their toes. A light hit or flick of the wrist can get the puck past the goalie’s glove, or a skillful stroke can push the puck back against the grain of a fluid defense. Players can equip the Big Tipper X-Factor ability in World of Chel mode to make their deflections even more deadly. All these factors make a NHL game that could look a lot more like real hockey than in previous years.
