LONDON —Soho House has hired Samsung Electronics’ Europe Communications and Events Director Anouska Ruane (pictured) as the group’s global communications director. She was previously communications director for Tesla and Facebook. Ruane will be responsible for all external and internal communications at the members’ club, valued at over $ 3 billion, which plans to IPO on the New York Stock Exchange later this year.
LONDON – Virgin Money has appointed Huntsworth Red Consultancy and Citigate Dewe Rogerson to jointly lead external public relations after a competitive pitch. Their mission will include a responsive press office and consumer campaigns, as well as product launches and financial news. Virgin Money, which has 6.5 million UK customers, will continue to run its press office internally. The account was previously held by Powerscourt.
LONDON – Jack Doyle has been promoted to director of communications at No.10 Downing Street. He was previously assistant to James Slack, who became associate editor of the Sun newspaper. Doyle became press secretary at No 10 last year after a career as a journalist and then deputy editor of the Daily Mail’s political bureau.
LONDON – International communications and government relations firm Hume Brophy has appointed Alastair Gornall as non-executive chairman, succeeding Michael Brophy who has chaired the company since 2012. Gornall, who founded and headed the management of Consolidated Communications and Scope Communications (now part of Ketchum), will work with CEO Conall McDevitt to drive growth and innovation.
LONDON – Sunny Side Up corporate division has added agritech Saga Robotics to its client list. The agency will help define the brand positioning, visual identity and communication strategy of the company before implementing a corporate communication campaign with the outside later in the year. Saga Robotics, which operates in Norway, the UK and the US, helps growers in the fruit and vegetable industries through robots that can perform repetitive, low-quality tasks on their own.
LONDON – Citypress has hired Lizzie Roberts as director of its strategic media and communications team. She is from Alton Towers Resort, where she was responsible for public relations and media relations.
JERUSALEM – Finn Partners in Israel promoted Ellie Gorlin Hanson as a partner, to expand accounts receivable management in the healthcare innovation sector. Hanson has been part of the agency since 2008.
MANCHESTER – Brazen was commissioned by Card Factory, a card and gift retailer, to handle its consumer public relations after a competitive pitch. The retailer, which has 1,000 stores operating in the UK and Ireland, has asked the agency to generate downloads of its new app. The agency will offer national and regional PR and influencer activations to drive web traffic, app downloads and footfall to its stores, as well as a press office.
LONDON – Social strategy firm Purpose Union has established a Climate Counsel, including former Evening Standard editor Joy Lo Dico, former Body Shop activism and communications manager Kate Levine , and advisers based in the United States and Germany. The Climate Counsel will work with businesses and other organizations to plan, communicate and run campaigns that support the transition to net zero. Services will include net zero communication advice, campaign development and execution, strategic partnerships and coalitions, policy and advocacy, as well as climate information and branding.
LONDON – Evergreen PR, a public health consulting firm, has been appointed by the Personalized Care Institute, launched last year by NHS England, to offer a 12-month communications program to support its mission to help healthcare professionals health to become more involved in decisions about their care. Evergreen PR, which won a competitive pitch, will bring the institute’s purpose to life with a multi-channel program that includes earned, shared and owned activities and stakeholder partnerships.
LONDON – Boldspace has made four additions to its team in the areas of strategy, customer services, design and public relations. Adam Larter joins as Director of Strategy at Studio Black Tomato, where he was Senior Strategy Manager. Jillian Sypkes joins as an Account Director in Client Services working for Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations. She previously held client management positions with Cossette and Gray in Canada. Graphic designer Martina Consoli and Marius Putnam, as communications manager, also join the agency full time.
LONDON – Specialist healthcare agency Havas Just has hired Corin Baird to strengthen the agency’s digital capacity and support its recent growth. Baird leads a team that also includes Florence Chinn who was previously responsible for digital communications at AbbVie in the UK. Baird was responsible for creative solutions at Buzzfeed, Huffington Post and The Guardian and comes from VMLY & R where he was responsible for digital planning.
LONDON – Virtual Reality and AI Ideas Lab TechNovus has hired Chris Cartwright Communications for a media relations and influence program focused on coverage in global commercial media. The company created the Dream Machine platform that allows people with depression and post-traumatic stress to practice mindfulness in a virtual reality game, as well as an app, Mezura AI, which allows customers to match their measurements with desired clothes when browsing fashion websites.
