David Draiman praises bandmate for his ‘cancel culture’ guitar
Disturbed’s David Draiman praised bandmate Dan Donegan for challenging “cancel culture” via custom guitar design.
The frontman said he “couldn’t be prouder” of Donegan, who recently had the phrase “fuck cancel culture” printed on a guitar in the style of the Coco-Cola logo.
On July 6, Donegan posted several images of his new instrument with the caption, “New addition to my arsenal! “Thank you Marc LaCorte Matt Chewy Dezynski Schecter Guitars #FuckCancelCulture Disturbed”.
Following the post, Draiman took to his Twitter to share a photo of the guitar with the caption, “@DanDoneganGtr’s new guitar. Couldn’t be more proud @Disturbed.”
Fans in the replies seem to be pretty split on the guitar’s message, with one user writing, “Imagine being a grown man and thinking that’s pretty pissed off,” while another said, “I’d buy this and I do not do it. even play the guitar. Nailed down !”.
Another fan directly addresses the band’s perception of cancel culture, writing, “Listen a big fan but cancel culture is a lie. I’m not a fan of politics at all. But I love the band… These people claiming to be “cancelled” for saying shitty stuff wasn’t canceled Dave Chappelle was canceled in four other Netflix specials worth millions. JK Rowling has been canceled in a multi-million dollar deal with WB.
Disturbed is certainly not the first band to offer its take on cancel culture. In fact, last month, Kiss’ Paul Stanley said, “I find myself thinking that ‘Cancel Culture’ is more dangerous than what it wants to cancel. Is censorship and silencing people okay if you think you’re right? It’s a slope we’re already sliding down. You beat the lies with the truth, not the gags.
