Machine connectivity is the key to networked industrial production, and CORE – United Grinding’s Customer Oriented REvolution – makes these demands a reality. “The digital future starts with CORE,” said Stephan Nell, CEO of United Grinding. Developed by Group specialists, the revolutionary new hardware and software architecture was presented as a North American premiere at Evolution to Revolution, an industry event for precision CNC grinding.

Industry 4.0 has prompted the Plain grinding unit to increase its investment in the digital future. United Grinding’s CORE – Customer Oriented REvolution development began with this effort to ensure growing connectivity and create the foundation for modern IIoT applications with intuitive operations. CORE has turned this vision into reality – in a revolutionary way. CORE opens up remarkable possibilities for networking, controlling and monitoring the production process and optimizing its processes. Technology is updating the user experience for the generation of smartphones.

Intuitive operation
Like a gigantic mobile device, the 24 “Full HD multitouch display marks the next generation machine tools equipped with new CORE technology. With tactile navigation and a customizable user interface, customers can organize important functions and displays. functioning as they would on the home screen of a smartphone.

The new access system uses a personalized RFID chip that automatically loads individual user profiles for improved security and easy operator login / logout operations. To reduce complexity and avoid errors, users see only the information that is relevant to them.

The new CORE panel uses virtually no keys. A prominent rotary switch for feed rate correction allows operators to regulate axes with a single turn. The consistent use of the CORE panel across all United Grinding brands further simplifies machine operation and training. Anyone who can use one United Grinding machine can use them all.

CORE: More than just an innovative control panel
Behind the new eye-catching control panel, machines equipped with the new CORE technology feature many additional improvements. “There were also major innovative developments behind the machine enclosure,” says Christoph Plüss, CTO of United Grinding Group. CORE OS, a complete operating system, is installed on a high performance industrial PC, the CORE IPC, which serves as the IIoT gateway and host for all software applications. CORE OS is also compatible with all CNC controls used at United Grinding

New technology opens up a multitude of connectivity possibilities. All United Grinding Group machines with CORE technology can be networked, as well as third-party systems via implemented interfaces, such as umati. This allows direct access to United Grinding Digital Solutions’ offerings on the machine – from remote service to service monitor and production monitor. For example, customers can request assistance from the Group’s Customer Care Team directly on the CORE panel. A chat function ensures quick and easy assistance, and the integrated front camera even allows video calls.

Highest benchmark: user experience
During CORE’s development, software and process leaders from all of the Group’s brands pooled their expertise to design an unprecedented software architecture. “An improved user experience has always been our top priority,” Plüss explains, noting that the abbreviation CORE stands for Customer Oriented REvolution.

CORE represents a quantum leap in machine tool operating systems and software architecture, said company CEO Stephan Nell. “This means our machines are ready for the digital future. The CORE technology shown at Evolution to Revolution is still under development. “It lays the foundation on which we can build,” explains Plüss. “Development will continue on an ongoing basis. Thanks to the flexible and modular structure of the software architecture, we will continuously add new features and applications. We intend to harness the concentrated software development power of our group for the benefit of our customers.

United Grinding Group plans inspire customers with a steady stream of new versions of CORE software that are actively shaping the digital future. Thus, the Group remains faithful to its ultimate objective of making its customers even more efficient.
