2022 BMW X4 M Spotter guide: What’s new for 22?

BMW has updated its X4 fastback compact SUV for 2022, and that includes the most performance-oriented version of the model: the X4 M. M offers more torque for 2022, as well as refreshed exterior and interior styling. Click to see the visual changes BMW is making to the model for 2022.

BMW is modifying the front end of the X4 model range for 2022. This includes the X4 M, which sports a new schnoz with additional gloss black elements that highlight the model’s reworked lower air intakes.

Additionally, the 2022 X4 M swaps out the individual kidney grilles of last year’s model for a larger, conjoined package. As a result, the 2022 X4 M looks a lot less piggy than that older version.

Complementing the 2022 BMW X4 M’s updated fascia is a set of 0.4-inch thinner headlights.

Although the new lamps resemble last year’s units, the slimmer bezels give the face of the X4 M a more sinister look for 2022.

Like its front, the rear of the X4 M gets a new fascia for 2022. Compared to its previous monotonous look, the rear of the 2022 X4 M now incorporates gloss black trim that more effectively showcases the fastback body style of the SUV.

BMW is also subtly reworking the interior of the X4 M for 2022. The dashboard design incorporates a 12.3-inch touchscreen – 2.0 inches larger than the previous unit – running the latest iDrive infotainment setup from BMW, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with a revamped user interface.

Besides a smaller center display, the previous version had mechanical gauges. Keen eyes will also notice changes to the X4 M’s climate and audio controls.

The X4 M also incorporates an updated center console that houses the start/stop button and the various controls related to the driving mode.

The old shifter handle was larger. Both units operate somewhat confusingly, with the reverse gear located up and to the left of the lever’s default position.
